 Best PS2 Game Ever

The key to SSX's appeal isn't found in a perfect recreation of the snowboarding experience, but rather an exaggeration of that experience. SSX is the definition of over-the-top. Jumping a sheer cliff will send players hundreds of feet in the air performing triple back-flips while adding multiple grabs for good measure, and yet still managing to score that perfect landing.

Gameplay:

There are obstacles for you to hurdle in this game. Each character has 2 sets of clothing that you can choose from. If you want to add more clothing to each character, you have to learn to do 20 different snowboarding tricks in each game in order to activate those new clothing. Also, each character has 2 different types of snowboarding that you can select. If you want to add more snowboarding or events to each character, you have to win either a silver, bronze, or gold metal when you race with your competitors. This game gives you option to play by yourself, or with a 2nd player, or race with all the characters.

Sound:

The sound in SSX is on par with the graphics. EA signed the Beastie Boy's Mixmaster Mike to provide the background beats. The result is one of the best gaming soundtracks I have ever heard. The mixes are a far cry from the generic techno or indie rock that usually follows a title of this type, and should be very pleasing to almost any gamer. The voices given to each character are just as good as the music. Each voice is stereotypical to the region that the boarder calls home, again adding to the over-the-top nature of the game.

Graphics:

The graphics are excellent. The backgrounds are stunning but not so much as to be a distraction to gameplay. The terrain looks realistic including different styles such as poweder, packed powder, ice, slush and snow. The riders look very life like and their actions look realistic. There are no borders to the graphics, meaning when yous stray off course you can continue going in any direction.

Overall:

As a racing game, SSX is very fast, very intense and very creative at its core. SSX is simply one of the best racing games ever made and played. As a snow boarding game, SSX has proven that the sport can be fun and very playable. Electronic Arts Canada relied on creativity in addition to speed and artificial intelligence. The result was a highly enjoyable racing experience that rides on high challenge and stunts. SSX is one of the best reasons to get a PlayStation2 system and it's already worth the console. If you don't have a PS2 yet, then make sure you get SSX along with the console!
